Since the 1960s simple inexpensive cold lactated Ringers with additives has been used for short-term cold preservation of kidneys from living donors. We performed 266 living donor kidney transplantations from January 22, 2003 to October 30, 2006. Donor allografts were recovered laparoscopically and flushed with cold heparin, lactated Ringer's and procaine (HeLP) solution. Warm and cold ischemic...
متن کاملIntraosseous fluid resuscitation in meningococcal disease and lower limb injury
We set out to review the recent incidence of extravasation and compartment syndrome in children with meningococcal disease admitted to our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) who had been resuscitated with intraosseous (IO) needles. Over a 12-month period, 18 children were admitted to PICU with meningococcal sepsis. Four of these children were resuscitated with IO needles and 2 developed seri...
متن کاملA Comparison of Vasopressin, Terlipressin, and Lactated Ringers for Resuscitation of Uncontrolled Hemorrhagic Shock in an Animal Model
AIM The aim of this study is to compare the effect of lactated ringer (LR), vasopressin (Vaso) or terlipressin (Terli) on uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock (UHS) in rats. METHODS 48 rats were divided into four treatment groups for UHS study. Vaso group was given bolus vasopressin (0.8 U/kg); the Terli group was given bolus terlipressin (15 mcg/kg); LR group was given LR and the sham group was no...
متن کاملDiscovery of the intraosseous route for fluid administration.
One of the many problems in the resuscitation of the shocked patient is how to gain access to the circulation to provide fluids or drugs. Since the 1830s fluids have been administered intravenously. Intravenous access is not always possible in the very shocked patient. An alternative, used in the first world war, was the rectal route. This has rarely been used on a large scale since. Just befor...
